Last Wednesday 22nd December, ACERTA received the authorisation for the certification of ASICI’s Animal Welfare and Biosecurity Technical Standard, IBAW.
What is IBAW?
IBAW-IBERICO ANIMAL WALFARE is the Animal Welfare of Iberian Pigs regulation developed by ASICI (Interprofessional Association of Iberian Pigs) which is a non-profit Interprofessional Agri-Food Organisation, in which all the links in the Iberian pig value chain are represented: production, processing and marketing, and whose objective is the development of actions that benefit the entire value chain of the Iberian sector, such as the Animal Welfare certification.
The IBAW regulation ensures compliance with the five principles of animal welfare established by the World Organisation for Animal Health: animals free from hunger, thirst and malnutrition, free from fear and distress, free from physical or thermal discomfort, free from pain, injury or disease and free to express their own behavioural patterns.
How IAWS differs from IBAW
IAWS – Interporc Animal Welfare Spain is the standard developed to certify the Animal Welfare of the white layer pig.
IBAW – Ibérico Animal Welfare is the standard developed in a similar way to certify the Animal Welfare of Iberian pigs.
Positioning of ACERTA
With this new authorisation, ACERTA expands its portfolio of assessed standards, which comprises 16 accredited scopes, including IFS Food, IFS Logistics, BRCGS Food Safety, Integrated Production and 10 GLOBALG.A.P. scopes, in addition to the 20 standard promoting body authorisations.
This broad portfolio of services places ACERTA among the TOP20 leading agri-food certification bodies in the world, both in terms of the geographical scope of its activity and the number of accredited certification scopes and authorisations it has.
Furthermore, the serious and technically impeccable work it has been doing since 1998 has allowed ACERTA to always be rated very positively by the main international promoters of certifiable standards, which consolidates its prestige and maintains it as one of the international references in the sector.
