What is the BRCGS Packaging Materials version 6 standard

The standard sets out requirements for the manufacture of packaging materials used in the production and filling operations of food products, consumer products where hygiene plays a key role (including cosmetics), raw materials and other consumer products. Los requisitos se agrupan en 7 capítulos (se incluye Requisitos para productos comercializados), The requirements are grouped into 7 chapters (including Requirements for marketed products), with additional voluntary modules aimed at addressing potential waste of pre-production materials that may affect the environment and environmental awareness.

The aim of the Standard has been, from the outset, to help establishments and their customers comply with product safety legislation.

Packaging regulations differ in detail around the world and generally focus on packaging materials that come into contact with food. Generally, it requires packaging manufacturers to comply with the following:

  • Produce packaging that does not present a hazard to human health,
  • Provide a processing environment that ensures that the risk of contamination of the product is minimised,
  • Use raw materials or ingredients that are not harmful to human health,
  • Preserve, protect and contain products adequately throughout the supply chain and product shelf life,
  • Ensure that information about the product is presented to the consumer.

The Standard is based on the following key components: senior management commitment, risk assessment of the product and manufacturing process, and a systematic approach to product safety and quality management.
