Last Thursday, September 2, the first WOW – Welfare On Wheels certificate was issued to the company TRANSPORTS JAUME GABARRELLA BERGÉ S.L. from Balaguer (Lleida), thus guaranteeing its commitment to Animal Welfare in transport.

This certification has been developed at the initiative of the National Association of Live Animal Transporters (ANTA) in collaboration with ACERTA’s animal welfare department.

The WOW seal focuses exclusively on animal welfare during transport; This implies, among other aspects, the driving conditions, the characteristics of the transport compartment, the travel times, the breaks or the training of the carriers.

What does certification bring to producers, distributors and customers?

The WOW certificate is beneficial for everyone. Of course for the animals, which will be transported in dignified conditions and with the least possible stress. Of course, for the industry that, in addition to fewer incidents in the reception of raw material, will obtain a better quality product. And finally for consumers, to whom the seal will give confidence that the animals have been handled in dignified conditions and in accordance with animal welfare standards during transport.

This seal makes it possible to identify good transport operators, that is, those who comply with the conditions of animal welfare during their transport in land vehicles. Likewise, it facilitates the process of adaptation of the sector to the forthcoming demands on animal welfare of the European Union, which are increasing and are becoming more restrictive.
